Library Assistant

The Mineral Point Public Library is seeking a full time Library Assistant.  The Library Assistant reports to the Library Director and is responsible for providing library services and high quality, early literacy learning experiences for caregivers and children. This position plans and conducts programs with a focus on children and families in and outside of the Library and promotes youth services to the community. The Library Assistant provides excellent customer service to library patrons, assists patrons in meeting their reference and informational needs, manages assigned library collections and participates in the day-to-day operations of the library. The person in this position must be able to work with technology and provide virtual programming and other library services as assigned. This forward-thinking, creative, and adaptable librarian will promote a love of learning, reading, and help foster future school success among the children in our library.

Library Assistant Responsibilities:

 Present virtual programs.

Plan & present story times.

Plan, prepare and present library programs for all ages.

Provide assistance to patrons of all ages.

Assist in preparing publicity materials and library displays.

Assist in collection maintenance tasks.

As needed, supports the materials handling process, including check-in, sorting, shelving, and retrieving materials requested by patrons.

Helps plan and deliver outreach programs.

Cross train and work in all departments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Library Assistant Requirements:

Associate degree or two years of college.

At least one year of customer service experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to understand and perform assigned library procedures and apply library policy.

Strong customer service skills.

Excellent written communication skills.

Ability to work independently.

Knowledge of computer functions and office equipment.

Attentive to details and strives for accuracy.

Ability to organize assigned work.

 Physical Demands: Moderate Work: Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and push or pull a cart weighing up to 150 pounds or more. Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to use a computer for long periods of time.
