Mineral Point Public Library
Job Description: Library Clerk (Part-Time)
Status: (10–15 hours/week and alternate Saturdays)
Compensation: Wage based on skills and library experience
Reports To: Library Director

Position Summary
The Mineral Point Public Library is seeking a friendly, dependable, and community-oriented individual to join our team. The Library Clerk provides essential front-line service, facilitating the circulation of materials, assisting with technology, and maintaining an organized, welcoming environment for all community members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Circulation Services: Check materials in and out, renew items, process library card applications, and manage holds/requests using the automated library system.
- Patron Assistance: Greet visitors and provide information regarding library policies, programs, and services. Direct patrons to specific collections or resources.
- Technology Support: Assist patrons with basic computer use, printing, scanning, and troubleshooting digital resources (e.g., e-books and library apps).
- Social Media & Communications: Assist in maintaining the library’s online presence by drafting and posting updates to social media platforms. Help promote library events, new arrivals, and community resources to increase engagement.
- Collection Maintenance: Sort and shelf books and media accurately. Process new items and assist in maintaining the collection as directed.
- Facility Support: Ensure the library remains tidy and organized. Perform opening and closing procedures as scheduled.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills and a “community-first” mindset.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using Windows-based PCs, office software (Word/Excel), and navigating the internet.
- Digital Communication: Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and the ability to create professional, engaging, and grammatically correct posts.
- Communication: Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with diverse age groups.
- Reliability: Consistent attendance and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including alternating weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods (2–4 hours).
- Ability to reach, bend, and kneel to shelve books on high or low shelves.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs (e.g., boxes of books or heavy bins).
- Manual dexterity to operate computer keyboards and handle library materials.
